Native Birds of Cape Cod

Every day of that week I spent in Cape Cod began the same: sitting on the back deck of the house, sometimes with a coffee, sometimes a beer, once a glass of Jameson 12 year, staring out at the lake, waiting for the various wildlife to come out of hiding. Particularly the birds.

Ruby-throated hummingbird - Female (females lack red throat patch)

Northern Blue Jay

 American Goldfinch - Male

American Goldfinch - Male & Female

 American Oriole - Female

American Oriole - Male

Tufted Titmouse

Downy Woodpecker - Male

  1. These are beautiful pictures of our bird family at the Cape. The gray finch is actually the Tufted Titmouse. I loved seeing the picture of the Oriole, he is elusive and very cautious; hard to get a good photo of him. He was still there at the end of August along with his mate. We don't see her in June since she is sitting the nest.
Now all we need are photos of the fox, coyote, raccoon, skunk, chipmunk, red squirrel, gray squirrel, flying squirrel, toads and the occasional garter snake. Maybe next year.
